Aggregation
I visited an Alternative Highschool Monday and observed the students socio-physical development. It was interesting to me, although not a new revelation by any means, that students really aggregate to like people. The gothic kids sat together, the Hispanic girls sat together, the kids that looked like they would probably be the "nerds" stuck together, and well, its just interesting that in our quest for identity, we find like minds to congregate with! It made me think about my own Jr. High and High School experience, and how being LDS was probably one of the main factors in my social aggregation. A friend of mine noted the other day, how different all of my highschool friends are from each other, and its true! I think a lot of what caused us to be friends was the fact that we were the same age, LDS, and most of us in the same ward. I know that for kids that grow up here in Utah, where there is a strong LDS population, that isn't necessarily a factor in their social grouping.

I would agree we were quite an eclectic group, but it made things so interesting and lively, don't you think?
Being thrown together at activities and girls camp etc. helped, but we also had shared obsessions, like movie adaptations of Jane Austen novels and simultaneous and/or shared crushes on either Jared, Derek, or Ivin (you're excluded from this one). And remember how our mutual obsession with Oasis influence our entire them as YCLs at our last year at girl's camp? I understand your point about aggregation, but underneath our surface differences, there are a lot of commonalities. Which is why we are still friends after all these years.
Oh, I forgot to include Chad in that list. Although I was never part of that shared obsession.
That seems like a life time away for me. All those purely girly things we did. By the way, good things all those said boys don't read our blogs or it would be one of those "I am to old to be embarrassed moments, but am none the less".
True Scully, true, we did, and that makes me think though, nature or nurture? Did we nurture each other's interests in certain books/movies/boys? Oh, and Walking, we had a conversation with Chad once about all the "likeings" that went on in the group! Did we ever confirm if Chad and Marta kissed?
You know I have always wondered about the whole "likings" thing. If I was mentioned what did he say?
I don't know if you were mentioned in the 'likings' conversation, except tangentially to the Marta conversation, in that Chad and Marta were over by prom, when he took you.
Although, ward friends did kinda help us all swim when were all little fishes in the big highschool sea.
It wasn't so much that being LDS or not didn't matter cause there were so many already. Even within the LDS population there were groupings of "jack" and "molly"
I was thinking the very same thing as we all sat around the table at your birthday party!! All the girls there had such defined and different personalities. But good point Scully -- we're all massive readers and have great taste. :) (yes Esper...we could have encouraged that in each other)
