Jonah, Jonah, Jonah.

Jonah and the Whale. Was the whale an act of justice or an act of mercy on the part of God? Think about it. I've been thinking about it a lot since I taught a 45 minute lesson on Jonah on Sunday, and I am going to go with mercy. God knew that Jonah was not going to obey him, and was going to get thrown overboard the ship. The scriptures actually tell us that the Lord prepared a whale for Jonah. I am not going to say it was a pleasant experience...but it was merciful on the part of God, who could have just drown him--.

Was I the only one who mixed up Jonah and Pinochio as a child?

Oddly enough, I think it was a little of both. It is like one big time-out for Jonah. A time for repentance, and a chance to make it right.

I like the time-out analogy, Mama Darlin'. It is perfect. Jonah was my first Primary talk at the age of 3. I still have the visual aids my mom drew and I colored somewhere. Anyway, time flies but the stories stay the same, I guess.

Yeah, too bad Jonah just didn't do what Heavenly Father told him to do in the first place, then he could have avoided the "time out" altogether! Funny how I do that too, sometimes Heavenly Father tells me what would fix my problems, and I don't do it for months, and when I finally get around to doing it, I realize how much easier it would have been to do that in the first place! Life.

I'm no sea-person but I wonder if other people have lived inside whales or if Pinocchio is taken a little bit from Jonah

Yeah, Pinochio was taken a bit from Jonah. Despite all the bad things people like to tag Disney with doing, they do use Biblical style characters/metaphors as well.
